Lamarque Coach Honored in Sarasota County's Team Behind the Scenes.
Tammy Van Valkenburg, a literacy coach at Lamarque Elementary School, has been recognized in Sarasota County Schools’ Team Behind the Scenes celebration. She brings 18 years of experience and an infectious love of learning to every grade level.
Van Valkenburg says she personally loves literature and writing, but she absolutely loves teaching math. She gets excited about number sense, manipulatives, and helping students see how flexible numbers can be.
Success is celebrated with smiles, public recognition, VIP rewards, and BLURPLE parties when blue and purple achievement levels are reached.
Outside of school, she enjoys tending to houseplants and flower gardens and spending time with her husband, two children, and their dog, rabbit, and hamster. She has had rabbits since she was 15 and says they’ve been part of her story ever since.
