Buffalo Public Schools announced that Henry Peterson, a junior at City Honors School, won a New York State outdoor track championship at the 2026 NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

According to the district, Peterson captured the Class B State Championship in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:15.33. He also placed fourth in the Class B 1600-meter Championship Race, clocking 4:14.27.

The district also listed results for other student-athletes from across Buffalo Public Schools:

• Ambria Thompson, a freshman at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, placed fifth in the Class C 200-meter final with a time of 25.41.
• Yerniel Colon Nieves, a junior at Hutchinson Central Technical High School, placed fifth in the Class A 400-meter hurdles final with a time of 55.19.
• Cardell Staples, a senior at McKinley High School, placed fourth in the Class B high jump with a mark of 6’1”.
• The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts 4x100-meter relay team placed eighth in the Class C finals with a time of 50.24.

Buffalo Public Schools said the achievements reflected student-athletes’ dedication during the state championship weekend.
