Sarasota County Emergency Services announced a free educational event focused on rip current safety.

The “Slip Steam Rip Current Simulator Class” is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Lido Beach Pool.

Organizers said the class is designed to help the community understand how rip currents form, why they are dangerous, and what to do if someone is caught in one. Attendees are expected to learn safety information, including how to escape a rip current and reach safety.

Sarasota County Emergency Services said it encourages residents, visitors, families, and beachgoers to attend and learn the water safety skills.
