Sarasota County proclaims Economic Development Week
The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed Economic Development Week, May 4–8, 2026, with the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County standing in support.
The proclamation highlights the impact of more than 100,000 economic development professionals worldwide and, right here at home, who are working every day to create opportunity, support businesses and strengthen communities.
In Sarasota County, the work is described as the result of collaboration between public and private partners, connecting leaders across government, industry and education to drive long-term, sustainable growth.
As the International Economic Development Council marks its 100-year legacy, the group says it is part of a global movement advancing innovation, resilience and economic opportunity.
The organization thanks its County Commissioners, its Board of Directors, its Chair Advisors and Investors, and all partners who make this work possible and who continue to shape what is next for Sarasota County.

Sarasota County Declares National EMS Week at May 5 Meeting
The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners declared May 17–23 National EMS Week at its May 5 meeting, as Sarasota County Fire Department personnel logged 67,504 total calls for service (including 54,418 EMS calls) and transported 38,298 EMS patients in fiscal year 2025, and officials thanked EMTs and paramedics, saying, "We are eternally grateful to all the EMTs and paramedics at Sarasota County Fire Department and throughout Sarasota County for all they do to care for our community."
