Sarasota sheriff urges residents to seek shelter during lightning
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said residents should get indoors when thunder roars, as part of Lightning Safety Awareness Week.
In its guidance, the sheriff’s office said people should seek shelter indoors and avoid water such as washing dishes, bathing, or showering. It also said to unplug electronics and to keep away from windows and doors.
For those outside, the sheriff’s office said to steer clear of trees, open areas, and water.
The office also said if someone is struck by lightning, people should call 911 immediately and check for a pulse.
