Sarasota County Emergency Management, the Sarasota County Fire Department, and partners from state and local agencies toured Arcadia Stockyard to learn how the facility assists the community after disasters. The facility has previously been used to house and feed large animals and livestock that have been separated from their farms in past storms.

During the visit, the group also toured the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ mobile animal response equipment, known as the MARE trailer. The trailer holds 100 pet cages and contains food, leashes, first aid and cleaning supplies, fencing, a water tank, kennels, and a cattle chute. Sarasota County Emergency Management requested and received a MARE trailer for use during the 2024 hurricane season to help the community in storm recovery.
