Florida Wildfire Awareness Week Promotes Safety Tips

Sarasota County Emergency Services reports that Florida Wildfire Awareness Week is observed each year during the first full week of April. Officials will share tips throughout the week to help residents prepare for wildfires, a severe weather hazard that can occur year-round. The most active month for significant wildfires is May.

Residents are encouraged to follow safety tips including evacuating immediately when instructed by officials, staying up-to-date on active fires as well as fire watches and warnings, and using an N95 mask to help protect against smoke inhalation.
