Sarasota Proclaims Salvation Army Day During National Salvation Army Week

Sarasota, Fla. — The Salvation Army of Sarasota County has met the needs of individuals and families experiencing hardship in Sarasota with compassion and dignity for nearly a century, the City of Sarasota said.

In addition to providing relief for homelessness, food insecurity, addiction and crisis, the organization’s Center of Hope shelter empowers people to find stability and renewed hope as they rebuild their lives.

National Salvation Army Week provides the opportunity to acknowledge the impact of these services. During its morning meeting, the Sarasota City Commission recognized May 13, 2026 as Salvation Army Day, highlighting the importance of caring for neighbors in need.

The proclamation was received by Capt. Jim Curry, who shared that the organization’s compassion and dedication helped him overcome homelessness in Los Angeles 30 years ago and build a better future for himself.

City of Sarasota government is with The Salvation Army of Sarasota County at Sarasota City Hall.
