Sarasota County Emergency Management has announced that a cold weather shelter will be available tonight and tomorrow for individuals in need due to dropping temperatures. The 100 Church located at 14525 Tamiami Trail, North Port, will open its doors at 5 p.m. on both Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3. Attendees are advised to bring their own sleeping materials.

For those needing transportation, Breeze Route 9 is operating on a normal schedule and has stops along Tamiami Trail at Espanola Avenue/Almonte Terrace, which is a short walk to the shelter. Breeze OnDemand services are also available for residents in the North Port area. More information can be found at www.scgov.net/breeze, and the Breeze Rider app can be used to check bus arrival times.

Officials recommend that pets not be left outside during the cold weather. Residents who must be outside during the night or early morning hours should dress in multiple warm layers and minimize skin exposure to the wind.
