Sarasota County Beach Warning Flags Explained

Staff Report / sarasotalocal.org

Sarasota County has issued several beach warning flag alerts to inform the public about water safety conditions. The current status includes:

- **Water Closed to Public**: This is due to high hazard conditions, which indicate high surf and/or strong currents.

- **Medium Hazard**: Conditions are marked by moderate surf and/or currents.

- **Low Hazard**: These conditions indicate calm waters; however, caution is advised.

- **Dangerous Marine Life**: This warning indicates the potential presence of harmful sea creatures.

It is important to note that the absence of flags does not guarantee safe water conditions.

Visitors are encouraged to swim near lifeguards when possible and to familiarize themselves with the various beach warning flags. More information on beach conditions can be found online at visitbeaches.org.
