Sarasota Urges Holiday Light Safety Precautions

Staff Report / sarasotalocal.org

As the holiday season approaches, Sarasota County Emergency Services is reminding residents to prioritize safety while decorating with holiday lights.

Before setting up holiday lights this year, individuals are advised to inspect each strand for any damage. Specifically, they should look for frayed or pinched wires, which can pose a fire hazard. If any light strands show signs of wear and tear, they should be discarded immediately.

Additionally, the emergency services emphasize the importance of turning off all holiday lights before going to bed or leaving the home. These simple steps can help keep homes safe during the festive season.
